The Fictions of Bruno Schulz

The Book, without attributes — a myth the child remembers, of which every actual volume is a clumsy falsification, including the one Father leaves on the table.

The novel Schulz was writing when he was shot in Drohobycz — a Messiah coming toward the town from the eastern Carpathians — which survived, if it survived, as a rumour, a forged bundle, and a fire.
